National Women’s History Month 2010
“Writing Women Back Into History”
Janet Hamlin studies Illustration at the art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California where she received an award of excellence and graduated with honors in 1987, and now living and working in New York. Her poster illustrated “Writing Women Back Into History”. Our poster celebrates and recognizes women from our past and present and writing them back into History.
Sacajawea – Accompanied the Lewis and Clark expedition in their exploration of the Western United States.
Amelia Earhart – The first women to receive the Distinguished Flying Cross awarded for becoming the first aviatrix to fly solo across the Atlantic ocean.
Wilma Rudolph – The first American women to win three gold medals in track and field during a single Olympic game.
Sonia Sotomayor – First Hispanic woman appointed to the United States Supreme Court.
Patsy Mink – U.S. House of Representative for a total of twelve terms representing Hawaii’s second congressional district.
Rosa Parks – African American Civil Rights activist called the mother of the modern day civil right movement
Sally Ride – The first American woman in space as a crew member on Space Shuttle Challenger.
