Holocaust - Days of Remembrance

Artist Carol Goldmark has the dual identity being a lifelong artist and a Rebbetzin (Rabbi’s wife) for the past forty years. In my drawings and paintings, flowers are metaphors for life and death, beauty and decay, the passage of time and the gradual disintegration of human flesh, bores and organs. This imagecombines both botany and anatomy, constructing a metaphor for mortality. The resulting hybrid imagery explores the metaphysical relationship between flowers and flesh. The themes and poetry of the Hebrew Scriptures have continued to inspire me as I work within the narrative of flowers as flesh. The words of Psalm 103 have had particular resonance: “As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourishth…for the wind passeth over it and it is gone.”
